Tina Hovsepian, an architect and social entreprenuer, graduated from the University of Southern California with her Bachelors of Architecture in 2009. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Tina always had a consuming interest in humanitarian causes, especially the plight of the homeless on Downtown’s infamous Skid Row. During her time at USC she had the opportunity to synthesize this interest with her architectural studies. In 2007 she designed and built a prototype of a temporary shelter made of folded cardboard, Cardborigami. Tina received a Prize from the Steven's Institute of Innovation for Cardborigami as Most Innovative at the 2009 USC Undergraduate Symposium for Creative Work. That was the first time an Architecture student had won an award in this school-wide category.

Since then, Tina has successfully launched a non-profit with the shelter as the centerfold and designed programs to support those who have lost their homes. As Executive Director she has garnered support, attracted media attention, and raised over $1.3 million in funds and in-kind services. Tina was recently titled Mother of Invention for her innovation and ingenuity in the realm of social entrepreneurship. Hovsepian’s shelter has been requested by over 92 different countries and she is featured on the Huffington PostNew York TimesLA TimesInterior Design Magazine, and Archinect.

Mike Weetman is an accomplished Senior Executive and Board Member with more than 30 years of success across the technology, mobile app, film, TV and music industries. Leveraging extensive experience building enterprise value and driving growth across multiple media industries, he is a valuable asset for startups and growth companies working on expansion and business development. His broad areas of expertise include fundraising, M&A, P&L management, financial operations, monetization, deal structuring, due diligence, regulatory compliance, SaaS, and digital media.

Throughout his executive career, Mike Weetman has held leadership positions at companies including Whalerock Digital, Yahoo!, Dreamworks, 20th Century Fox, Capitol Records, EMI Music, and Ernst & Young. As COO/CFO & Head of Corporate Development for Whalerock Digital, he has led the transition to a new subscription business model while growing the company to more than 200 employees and launching unique digital brands in partnership with global market leaders. He has been responsible for raising tens of millions in debt and equity capital for Whalerock since 2014 to finance a pivot from digital media to mobile media, while developing strategic partnerships with YouTube/Google, MSN, AOL, NBC, P&G, Starcom MediaVest, MGM and others. With 20th Century Fox, he led a fundamental technology shift from VHS to DVD, expanding margins, transitioning 60% of the workforce, and growing revenue almost 4x. With E&Y, he evaluated Virgin Records for a $1 billion acquisition by EMI and was later hired by EMI to lead a successful integration across 38 countries.

Mike holds a Bachelor’s degree in Finance and Accounting from the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa. He has also taken courses in M&A and Film Industry Business through UCLA’s Anderson School of Management. As a seasoned Board Member, he has board and advisory board positions with Cardborigami, Clutch Gifts, Culminant Media, Prism Media, AfriCoin and ZuZu Entertainment Capital, as well as previously with Whalerock Digital, American Youth Soccer Organization and DTP Ltd.

Jeffrey Weiss has 11+ years of experience providing internal audit and advisory consulting to for profit and not for profit organizations.  He is currently a Director with Protiviti as a member of its Internal Audit and Financial Advisory Los Angeles office; helping companies realize standardized and streamlined operational processes, strengthen financial control environments, and improve compliance with applicable policies, standards, and regulations.  Jeffrey holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley.

"I believe in educating individuals about the different forms of homelessness and the wide range of reasons why someone might become homeless. Because, let’s face it: “Life happens.” Growing up in the City of Angels I feel that it is my duty to help with challenges that our community faces and the current challenge today is homelessness and the need for emergency shelters. I know that Cardborigami will inspire social change and allow for those experiencing homelessness to maintain their dignity. "

Stephanie Thomas served in the Air Force as a nuclear officer on the Minuteman III weapon system. She has 7+ years in the banking industry and currently works in regulatory compliance for MUFG.

Stephanie holds a Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management from California State University, Long Beach, a Master’s degree in Emergency & Disaster Management from American Military University and is currently earning her Executive MBA from the Anderson School of Management at UCLA. Stephanie is active in her community and is passionate about veteran issues and humanitarian causes; specifically causes that deal with helping individuals in a time of need. She has served as a volunteer first responder for the City of Long Beach and has seen firsthand how a disaster can displace families and leave them without a place to live.

Joyce Williams-Maxwell has over ten years of senior leadership experience providing oversight in the areas of strategic planning, finance, technology, human resources and administration in both for profit and not for profit organizational settings, including eight years in higher education.  She is currently the Chief Financial Affairs and Operating Officer at Emerson College Los Angeles and serves as board Treasurer of the Hollywood Business Improvement District and board member of the Police Activity League. Joyce is actively involved in developing community partnerships and working with not for profit organizations and public officials to provide support to diverse and underrepresented populations in the city of Hollywood.

Jeff White is an attorney at Miller Barondess, LLP, a litigation boutique firm in Los Angeles, California.  Jeff specializes in complex commercial litigation and has a diverse trial and appellate practice.  He has represented a range of public and private sector clients in civil and regulatory proceedings across California and the United States.  Prior to joining Miller Barondess, LLP, Jeff was a litigation associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, LLP in Los Angeles, and at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP in New York.

Jeff is committed to expanding access to the legal system and has an active pro bono practice.  While practicing in New York, he successfully represented a survivor of domestic violence, first-chairing a multi-day bench trial and obtaining a verdict for the maximum relief available under New York law.  He was honored for this representation by Sanctuary for Families, a non-profit organization dedicated to the safety and self-determination of victims of domestic and gender violence.  He has also represented consumers and non-profit organizations in civil actions across California in federal and state courts.

Jeff received his law degree from the University of Virginia, School of Law, where he served on the Virginia Law Review and graduated Order of the Coif.  Jeff received his Bachelor’s Degree from Pomona College, where he majored in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics.

But I believe solutions can be found to end the suffering that comes with having no home. No effort is too small - the single drop on the hot stone could be the start of a summer rain. And for that reason I have joined a passionate group of people who want to be part of the solution.”

Rene Seidel is Vice President of Programs and Operations at The SCAN Foundation.  Prior to his current position, Mr. Seidel worked for the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services in a number of positions, including State Grants Manager for the Office of AIDS Programs and Policy, the Mental Health Liaison for the Health Services Administration in the Office of Clinical Affairs and Affiliations, and as Director of Board Relations during his last three years with the County.

Before joining the County in 2001, Mr. Seidel directed health and social services programs for many years in community-based organizations. He served as Founder and Executive Director of the Family AIDS Institute in Salvador, Brazil, and as Director of HIV Services at Tarzana Treatment Centers in Los Angeles County. As part of this work, he was appointed to a number of community planning commissions and consortia.

Mr. Seidel was one of the founding staff members of the City of West Hollywood Homeless Project.

Mr. Seidel graduated from the Polytechnic College for Social Sciences in Munich, Germany, as a Social Pedagogue (FH).

One of the most pressing and ongoing social needs is to provide responsive, economic and dignified temporary shelter to those who are displaced from their homes. Cardborigami is an elegant, human-centered design product that can help expedite the transition from displacement to rebuilding lives."

Genevieve Liang is a strategic business leader focused on growing high-impact, mission-driven organizations. She assumed the role of Executive Director for Cardborigami in March 2017, after serving as Senior Vice President of Development for Mirasol Development LLC, a subsidiary of ImMODO Group, where she led community-scale solar projects development. Prior positions include VP of Business Development at the pioneering community solar platform company, Clean Energy Collective, as well as Utility-Scale Manager at Sharp Corporation’s Solar Electric Solutions Group. For nearly a decade, she structured complex transactions for both established as well as growth-stage firms, encompassing power offtake, utility ownership and EPC contracts for renewable energy markets across North America. Genevieve has also been active in the global sustainability tech startup community since 2012, including workshopping her own venture with the Founder Institute.

Genevieve’s earlier career spans strategic consulting, journalism, visual media, and law. She is an active pro bono consultant for the Grameen Foundation and previously served on the board of Girls in Tech Los Angeles, a STEM mentorship organization. Genevieve graduated with a dual BS in Geology and BA in Geography from UCLA, and holds a MBA from the University of Southern California.
