As part of our mission, we partner with New Earth Arts & Leadership Center, a fellow local nonprofit that educates and engages justice-involved, high school matriculating young adults, to temporarily hire their students in the manual assembly of our shelters.

Cardborigami serves as a module option of New Earth’s vocational training program; participating students learn and practice invaluable teamwork skills in ongoing group build sessions, along with improving their verbal communications and design thinking.

We began this partnership starting in the second half of 2018, and have been actively fundraising since to maintain the market rate compensation we pay the students for their labor.

FAQS

What other youth-focused nonprofits have you partnered with in a similar way?

In summer 2014, Cardborigami piloted a 1-month, paid, full-time assembly internship with 5 homeless Transition-Aged Youth (ages 16-24) clients of the LA LGBT Youth Center. We also offered a financial planning workshop led by a professional in the field so that participants learned how to get the most out of their paycheck. #Youthployment
